Daniel Boone by Chester Harding

Daniel Boone, Chester Harding

Shortly after the mid-century they were getting into Georgia this way. This moving mass of people contained children with names like Daniel Boone, and the forebears of Andrew Jackson, Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, James K. Polk, and Abraham Lincoln. This was when Andrew Jackson's father set up in Carolina piedmont and Thomas Jefferson's built his home on the frontier at Blue Ridge.

Daniel's family belonged to the Religious Society of Friends, called "Quakers" and were persecuted in England for their unorthodox beliefs.

Boone regularly took reading material with him on his hunting expeditions - the Bible and Gulliver's Travels were favorites.
